In a country called United Music, music is played everywhere. Each part of the country is known by their music speciality. Keyboardshire is where people are famous for playing keyboard instruments like piano, harpsichord and organ. The Note family lives in Pianoville, a small town in Keyboardshire. Its house is huge, made of two staves and two clefs, and Sick Boy C's bedroom is right in the middle. Busy Mum B and Dear Dad D don't stay afar. But if you ever visit them, beware of Angry Hungry A - he is not always very friendly to strangers!
Learning any musical instrument demands a great amount of concentration and persistence. Lessons need to be engaging enough for young beginners to feel motivated. Children retain more information and show greater interest on a subject when their imagination is incited through storytelling and visual arts. That is one of the reasons why picture books are the first literary genre that young children are exposed to in their early years. Benefiting from an interdisciplinary methodological approach, The Note family of Pianoville is a now published piano teaching method for the 4-10 age range. In this book, like in a picture book, the illustrations have a far more important purpose than embellishment. They bring the Note family story to life, while helping children absorb musical concepts and piano technique in this first stage of learning. As family members are connected to one another, so are the musical notes. Understanding these connections with the support of story and pictures will make the learning of piano by young children more pleasant and effective, hence increasing the chances of engagement during the lessons.
